Our Story
Handcrafted in North Carolina.
Built for Families.
We didn’t reinvent sleep. We gave families the space they always deserved.
Our Philosophy
Bigger Is Better — Especially When It Comes to Bonding
The Alaskan King Bed Company was founded on one deeply personal belief: that the bed you share with the people you love should never feel too small. Too many families are squeezed into standard King and California King mattresses — tossing, turning, and waking up frustrated. Children crawl in during the night. Pets claim their corner. Partners are pushed to the edge.
We call our approach the "Big Sleep" philosophy. It means that every square inch of your sleep surface should be genuinely comfortable — not just tolerable. It means that welcoming your toddler into bed at 3am shouldn’t mean sacrificing your own rest. It means that your morning routine — coffee in bed, reading, a lazy Sunday — should feel luxurious for everyone in the room.
At 108″ × 108″, the Alaskan King is nearly three times the sleep surface of a standard Queen. It is the largest luxury mattress available in the United States — and we believe it should also be the finest.
How We Came to Be
The Origin of the Alaskan King
Too Many Beds, Too Little Space
It started with a simple but universal frustration: a family of four sharing a California King, fighting for covers, with a dog at their feet and a toddler wedged sideways. The standard mattress industry had no answer for families who actually wanted to sleep together.
What If Bigger Was Better?
Our founders began researching the Alaskan King — a little-known mattress size measuring 108" × 108" (9 ft × 9 ft). The size existed, but quality versions didn't. Everything available was either poorly made, cheaply filled, or designed as a novelty rather than a serious sleep product.
North Carolina Roots
We set up our workshop in North Carolina, leveraging the region's deep tradition of furniture and upholstery craftsmanship. We hired master craftspeople, sourced the finest certified organic materials, and spent months perfecting our construction method before shipping a single mattress.
The Gold Standard in Family Sleep
Today the Alaskan King Mattress is synonymous with luxury family sleep. We offer three distinct collections — The Original, The Royale, and The Grand Royale — each handcrafted to order, each a masterpiece of materials and construction.

Handcrafted Heritage
Not a Factory. A Workshop.
There is a fundamental difference between a mattress that is manufactured and one that is made. Manufactured mattresses are cut, assembled, and compressed by machines — then rolled into a box and shipped across the country. The process is fast, cheap, and utterly impersonal.
Our workshop in North Carolina operates differently. Each Alaskan King mattress is assembled by hand, layer by layer, by craftspeople who know the product intimately. Springs are individually hand-tempered. Comfort layers are cut to exacting tolerances. Cashmere and organic cotton ticking is hand-quilted on traditional upholstery frames. The entire process takes days, not minutes.
North Carolina has been the center of American furniture and upholstery craftsmanship for over a century. We are proud to continue that tradition — and to bring those skills to bear on the most ambitious mattress ever made.
The Big Sleep Lifestyle
Room for the Whole Family — Including the Dog
We created the Alaskan King to solve a problem that millions of American families face every night: not enough room to sleep together comfortably. Co-sleeping has enormous benefits — improved bonding, better sleep for children, and a deeper sense of security for everyone in the family. But it only works when there is genuinely enough space.
At 9 feet by 9 feet, the Alaskan King provides 81 square feet of uninterrupted sleep surface. That is enough room for two adults, three children, and a large dog — all with room to spare. No more elbowing. No more compromises. Just sleep, as it was always meant to be.
Our customers tell us the same thing, again and again: buying an Alaskan King changed their family life. Morning routines became sacred rituals. Bedtime became a time the whole family looked forward to. The bedroom became the heart of the home again.

Our Eco-Friendly Promise
Pure Materials. Zero Compromise.
You spend a third of your life on your mattress. The materials you sleep on matter — for your health, your children’s health, and the health of the planet. We made a decision early on that we would never use synthetic chemical fillers, polyurethane foam, or chemical flame retardants in any of our products.
Instead, every Alaskan King mattress is filled with GOTS-certified organic cotton, GOLS-certified natural latex, and in our premium collections, baby cashmere wool sourced from ethical farms. These are renewable, biodegradable materials that are as good for the earth as they are for your sleep.
Our natural flame barrier meets all US safety standards without a single chemical treatment. Our packaging is made from recycled materials. And we offset the carbon footprint of every delivery.

What We Stand For
Six Pillars of the Alaskan King Standard
Family First
Every design decision we make starts with one question: does this bring families closer together? From our 108" × 108" sleep surface to our edge-to-edge comfort zones, the Alaskan King was engineered for togetherness.
Made in North Carolina
Our workshop sits in the heart of North Carolina — the cradle of American furniture craftsmanship. Every mattress is hand-assembled by skilled artisans who have dedicated their careers to the art of luxury sleep.
Pure Materials Only
We refuse to cut corners with synthetic fillers or chemical flame retardants. Every component — from the GOTS-certified organic cotton ticking to the GOLS-certified natural latex — is chosen for purity, performance, and longevity.
Uncompromising Quality
Mass-produced, bed-in-a-box mattresses are built to a price point. Ours are built to a standard. That means individually hand-tempered springs, hand-tufted surfaces, and quality checks at every stage of production.
Built to Last
A luxury mattress should be a lifelong investment. We use materials rated for 20+ years of nightly use. Our customers don't replace their Alaskan King — they pass it down.
Eco-Responsible
Our certifications include GOTS, GOLS, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, and CertiPUR-US. We source sustainably, package responsibly, and partner with suppliers who share our commitment to a healthier planet.
